Overview

User Experience

  • Registration & set up: App is available on Google Play. User adds a credit or debit card within the app. The card details can be entered manually or automatically through a photo. Up to 5 cards can be added. It is also possible to add PayPal account as well as loyalty cards within the app.

  • Making a payment: NFC initiated by physically tapping the phone on the contactless terminal. Authenticate with PIN code for payments over 20€, otherwise no authentication is needed. User can choose authenticate with PIN all transactions. It also can be used when the phone is switched off.

Payment Flows & Technology

  • Merchant perspective: The merchant processes a payment using their existing payments processing systems. Vodafone Wallet simply facilitates the payment by securely passing payment credentials to the merchant, and is not a party to the transaction. Even though the transaction is facilitated by Vodafone Wallet, the merchant is the seller of record for the purchase.

  • Security: Encrypted payment data. Vodafone Wallet sends to merchants a virtual card number. (Update to follow – Further information being obtained)

Business Model

  • Strategy: Vodafone Wallet does not charge merchant any fees for purchases through Vodafone Wallet. Vodafone revenue model is to contribute to its partners’ sales as well as get the loyalty of its customers.

  • Payee fee: No charge for merchants

  • Payer fee: No charge for consumer
