User Experience



  • Registration & set up: The app can be downloaded from Google Pay and App Store. Users have to enter their TESCO credentials in order to use their Clubcard account. This links Tesco Clubcard to PayQwiq, allowing the automated collection of Clubcard points. Users add a payment card to the app (it works Visa, Visa Debit, Visa Electron, MasterCard, MasterCard Debit, Maestro and American Express).



  • Making a payment: Users open the app and it generates a barcode that users have to scan to complete the transaction. Authenticate with PIN.

  • Security: All card data is secured in Tesco’s encrypted data centres – never on users’ phones. The app is protected by a 4-digit PIN created by the user.

  • Strategy: “This is why we have developed our mobile payments app PayQwiq, which allows customers to pay for their shopping quickly, easily and securely, and collect Clubcard points, all with one simple scan of their phone. Since we started to roll out PayQwiq, the feedback from customers has been incredibly positive” said Tesco digital wallet and group payments strategy director Mark Loch.
